Ethics FAQs

Answer:

We ask that you apply for ethical review a minimum of 6 weeks before you intend to start the project. This enables time for the Committee to review the project properly, and time for you to make any amendments, or provide any further information that the Committee may require.

In funded research we ask that you apply for ethical review after the award is granted, but before the project starts. Your funders may require that you have ethical approval in place at the application stage, however, and this can be accommodated by the Committee if necessary, though please ensure you allow six weeks for the ethical review process.

Internally funded and research student projects should be reviewed at any time (but a minimum of 6 weeks) before you intend to start the project.

The University closes for some national holidays such as Christmas, Easter and over Bank Holidays. Extra time should be allowed when applying for ethical review during these times.
