In the current funding climate it is essential to ensure both that research funding applications from one of the UK leading research institutions are fully supported, and that our research outcomes are effectively publicised. The Research and Innovation Service (RIS) facilitates this through the provision of strategic central support to research and innovation activities across the University.
The Funding Development Team within RIS comprises seven staff who lead on designing and implementing University-wide funding strategies for all public sector funding, covering UK, EU and International streams. It also provides tailored information on relevant opportunities for our academics and provides bespoke support to applicants from conception of the initial idea to submission of a completed bid.
A major element of funding success is alerting academics to the relevant funding opportunities and supporting intelligence as early as possible. We aim to promote funding opportunities and intelligence as well as showcase the University's research achievements here and through our Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest, LinkedIn and other Social Media sites.
Each gave presentations on a variety of funding schemes and opportunities, copies of which you can find here.
Dr. Helen Finch is an Academic Fellow in German, at the School of Modern Languages here at the University. Dr Finch was one of just seven academics awarded a fellowship in the first year of the Arts and Humanities Research Council's (AHRC) revised fellowship scheme. One year on, our RIS Public Funding Manager, Dr. Odette Dewhurst, took the opportunity to catch up with Dr. Finch.
Dr Vlad Skarda, Knowledge Exchange Manager from the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) came to the University of Leeds this month to give an overview of the work undertaken by the STFC and tell us more about their External Innovations funding schemes to support commercialisation of STFC funded research.
