Funding for public engagement

Research Development Fund (RDF)

The next round of the Research Development Fund is now open for applications, with a deadline of Wednesday 6th October.  Staff are invited to apply for up to £600 to fund the involvement of members of the public (e.g. public, patients, carers, service users and other stakeholders) in shaping or developing research ideas, i.e. at the research development stage prior to submitting a research proposal.

Please read the RDF guidance before completing the RDF application form.

Two distinct types of projects are considered:

  1. Holding an event/meeting (or series of smaller meetings) to inform a particular research grant application.
  2. Establishing an ongoing PPIE panel/user group in a specific research area, where the need for such a group has been identified and no other group exists already. It is advantageous to outline how the ongoing support for such a group will be met.

We encourage applicants to consider creative ways to involve stakeholders and alternatives to in-person events whilst social distancing measures remain in place.

Completed applications should be sent to peteam@leeds.ac.uk before 5pm on Wednesday 6th October.

Funds are limited for each round and the maximum amount per application is £600.

The RDF has 3 rounds of funding per year (January/February, May/June, September/October).

Acknowledgements: We would like to thank the RDS PPI forum for their knowledge and expertise in the preparation of the guidance and documentation for this funding call. We would also like to acknowledge the Wellcome Trust and RCUK who have contributed to the funding.
