Internal funding

International Strategy Fund (ISF)

The ISF supports a small number of strategic, high quality international research partnerships, which are endorsed jointly by the DVC and the DVC R&I. In this Inside Track article, Louise Heery outlines the ISF and how it will help the University deliver on its strategies.

Applications need to articulate the strategic value and potential to deliver institutional benefit as well as outline how the collaboration will be sustained and deliver expected outcomes.

Global Impact Acceleration Awards (GIAA)

The purpose of the GIAA is to promote and accelerate the global impact of the University’s research and innovation, and to create positive change in the world, with high-quality translational/engagement activities.

The activities funded support the movement of people, end user engagement, and stakeholders’ workshops; the emphasis is on delivering impact in ways that work. The GIAA provides flexible funding that can be deployed rapidly to seize opportunities as they arise.

Awards of up to £10,000 are made for a 12 month project.

Further information including how to apply, can be found in the GIAA Guidelines.

International Researcher Mobility (IRM) Award

The IRM enables researchers to strengthen global collaborations and strategic partnerships in order to deliver research excellence, in line with the University's strategic priorities.

Researchers can apply for up to £2000 to support bilateral mobility between Leeds and WUN or ARUA institutes.

Please read the IRM Guidelines for further details and how to apply.

Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Research Development Fund (RDF)

Research Development Fund, run by Worldwide Universities Network, is an annual seed funding scheme designed to build long-term international collaborations sustained by external funding. It is aimed primarily at WUN members but allows non WUN members to join proposals.

Its focus is to develop innovative solutions to address global challenges capitalising on the cultural diversity and geographical spread of the Network. The RDF supports work across specific focus areas (which may change each year).

The RDF has an internal review process at Leeds, followed by a 2nd stage external review by a WUN panel.  Awards of up to £10,000 are made for a project.
