UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships round 11: internal selection process

Please note that this page is for potential applicants who are not currently engaged to work at the University of Leeds. If you are already at the University of Leeds then the the following information, as well as additional support and signposting information, is located on the Staff UKRD Sharepoint pages.

This cross-UKRI scheme supports early career researchers and innovators with outstanding potential to provide long-term, flexible funding to tackle difficult and novel challenges, and support adventurous, ambitious programmes. Applications are welcome from the entirety of the UKRI remit.

The financial support offered will include the fellow's salary and justified research, such as staff, travel, equipment and training costs, with seven years of support available on a 4+3 model, with a review in year four. There is no limit to the amount of funding you can request under this scheme, but requests must be appropriate to the project and you must be able to justify the amount you need to meet the objectives of your proposal. This scheme has funded fellowships from £300,000 to over £2 million, and there is no preference for lower or higher cost proposals.

We don't currently have the details for round 11 of this scheme, but for Round 10, UKRI permitted Leeds to submit only a limited number of applications to the scheme. We therefore have to run an internal process to select applicants. This process has been designed to support the best possible applications and works in line with the UKRIs own timescales.

Please check with your host School research manager for any local processes associated with this call.

How to apply

The selection process is open to candidates already at University of Leeds and those who would like to come and hold their FLF here. If you are looking at this page it is because you are likely an external candidate.

Candidates must secure the support of their intended host School/Institute; supporting information from the host School/Institute is requested on the expression of interest form (see below for more information). You are encouraged at your earliest opportunity to make contact with those individuals who you wish to support your proposal through the internal process. You should also at your earliest opportunity register your interest in applying to the scheme by completing the Intention to Submit MS Form. This is so that all communications that go out on the University's internal communications networks in relation to the process can be duplicated to you.

The expression of interest form, complete with authorising signature from the Head of School/Institute must be submitted by Thursday 12 February (2pm)  to R-IDevelopment@leeds.ac.uk.
