Public Engagement

Unlock your potential in public engagement. The Public Engagement team offers comprehensive support – including funding, training, delivery and evaluation.

What is public engagement?

Public engagement is about sharing your research and its real-life impact. It’s a collaborative journey between yourself and the public, with a stress on shared experiences.

At its core, it’s about clearly communicating your research’s significance and methods, building a connection between your work and public’s everyday experiences.

The National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement’s stresses this connection in their definition:

“Public engagement describes the myriad of ways in which the activity and benefits of higher education and research can be shared with the public. Engagement is by definition a two-way process, involving interaction and listening, with the goal of generating mutual benefit.”

Our approach to public engagement is guided by the University’s Research and Innovation Strategy, as well as the Engaging Research for Impact Strategy.

In 2018, the University renewed its commitment to public engagement by signing the Manifesto for Public Engagement.
